At Encounter Church we celebrate and endorse the Apostles and Nicean Creeds; however, here follows a brief explanation of a number of core aspects of our faith:
We believe God is Trinity
God is three in one. Father, Son and Spirit co-eternal, co-equal, one true God. In this we believe that Jesus was simultaneously fully God and fully man in His ministry.
Genesis 1, Matthew 3:13-17, John 1:1-5, John 5:16-30, John 14:5-11, John 15:26 – 16:15
We believe in Scripture
We believe the Bible is the inspired and authoritative Word of God to us. All 66 books are the canon of scripture revealing God’s Spirit-breathed word to humanity for all of life.
2 Timothy 3:16
We believe in Salvation
We believe Jesus died for all humanity that none should perish and that one is justified and adopted into the family of God by grace alone through faith in the perfect and sufficient saving work of Jesus Christ.
John 14:6, Ephesians 2:1-10, Romans 1:17, 5:1, 5:17
We are Charismatic
The Holy Spirit is God in us continuing the mission of Jesus through his church. We believe we are regenerated by the power of the Spirit at salvation and subsequently empowered by Him to continue the work of Jesus with the powerful words of the Good News and acts of the Spirit in signs, wonders and miracles.
John 7:37-39, 16:7, Acts 1:4-8, Acts 2
We believe in the Church
We believe in not only the global expression of the body of believers that is the church, including all believers throughout the world, but also in the local and contextual expression of the church as being the very vehicle through which God’s kingdom mission is best established!
Matthew 16:16-17, Ephesians 3:10, Hebrews 10:25, Acts
We believe in Water Baptism
We believe that every believer after coming to faith is to be fully submerged in water at water baptism as an outward public confession of the inner transformation that has taken place at conversion. We believe this to be a baptism for those who have already believed.
Matthew 28:18-20, Acts 2:38-39, Acts 8:26-38, Acts 19:1-7, Romans 6:3-4
We believe in the Resurrection
We believe that one day, when God creates the new heavens and earth, all believers will be resurrected from the dead in bodily form. We believe that Jesus’ bodily resurrection was the first fruits of this resurrection and is part of a Christian’s great hope .
1 Corinthians 15:23
We believe in Kingdom Theology
We believe that in the life, mission, ministry and sacrifice of Jesus at Calvary, the Kingdom of God was inaugurated and brought forward into this present age. We also believe that it will come fully in its consummation at his return. In this we believe we are living between the times in the ‘already’ and ‘not yet’ of the dynamic rule of God and that we are to expect this increasing in breaking of the kingdom of God (heaven) now until His return.
Mark 1:14-15, Matthew 12:28, Acts 2, Hebrews 6:5
We believe in Communion
We believe Jesus commanded us to take communion together where we receive the bread and wine (juice) as symbols of His body and blood wherein we celebrate His triumph over sickness, disease and brokenness in the body as well as His utter forgiveness for our sin past, present and future in His blood.
Luke 22:7-20, 1 Corinthians 11:11-34
